Manufacturer’s classifications

Mercantile burglary safe ratings have been and are still the most popular in Canada. These ratings have been continuously updated and used for over 70 years. These Standards where initially developed in conjunction with Canadian insurance industry. Classifications run from class 2 to 5. Today all of these safes are of composite construction and are torch and toll resistant. Unlike some current industry ratings all of these provide equal and balanced six sided protection. These ratings will give you by far the very best burglary protection value.

	B RATE: These units typically have a ¼ steel door. The B rate unit was originally brought into the market place for daytime cash storage only. The unit has no true burglary rating but used in conjunction with time delay or electronic locks can be a useful tool to protect against armed robbery or employee shrinkage. This is not an insurable burglary product.
	CLASS 2 BURGLARY: This unit brings you to the first and lowest true burglary rating. Today this unit is typically a 2" composite product giving the consumer equal and balanced protection on all six sides. This unit is also available in a steel pate version however this unit does not stand up as well in a multi tool attacks, as well doesn’t come with the one hour fire rating that the composite does. Insurable risk for this product is up to $50.000.00 providing an appropriate U.L. listed alarm is included.
	CLASS 3 BURGLARY: This unit is the second burglary level. Today this unit is typically a 3" composite product giving you equal and balanced protection on all six sides. Also available in a steel plate version but again not giving you the versatility of multi tool attacks or fire protection.Insurable risk for this product is up to $250,000.00 providing an appropriate U.L. listed alarm is included.
	CLASS 4 BURGLARY: This is the third burglary level. This unit is typically a 4" composite product giving you equal and balanced protection on all six sides. This unit "steps" it up in that it brings full tool and torch protection with it, also has a two hour fire rating. Insurable risk for this unit with the appropriate U.L. Listed alarm is up to $500,000.00
	CLASS 5 BURGLARY: This is the top burglary rated safe in this line up. This unit is a 5" composite product giving you equal and balanced tool and torch protection on all six sides, as well as two hour fire. Insurable risk for this unit with appropriate U.L. Listed alarm system is up to $1,000,000
